The SAFELASE System
The SafeLase system is based on teaching students the five basic parameters that a laser technician needs to know in order to perform safe and effective laser treatments - these parameters being wavelength, spot size, fluence, pulse duration, and skin cooling.
Once SafeLase students learn these five basic parameters they can go on to quickly learn how to operate other manufacturers' equipment as long as the manufacturers take these five parameters into consideration when operating their equipment.
To prepare for the class each student begins with the SafeLase Home Study Program which they complete at their convenience and in the comfort of their own home. This SafeLase Home Study Program consists of a reading component which prepares the student for the online pre-test. The pre-test allows the instructors to pinpoint concepts the student did not fully understand, which in turn allows for corrections and explanations before the student attends the course in person.
Once the reading and online pre-test are successfully completed, the student fills out the online client consultation intake forms and then submits them for review by course in-structor Barbara Prete. Once the client consultation intake forms are reviewed the student receives a live, over-the-phone client consultation with course instructor Barbara Prete. The Home Study component of the SafeLase course allows the student to gain the knowledge and confidence he or she needs to have before they actually begin the class.
Each student enters the classroom not only as a student but also as a client. Since each student has already completed the Home Study portion of the class, their client consultation forms, and had their live over-the-phone consultation, they now can review their own client consultation forms and get test patched or treated the very first day of class. Once that is accomplished each student will have a good understanding of just how each client is treated when they enter their office. Armed with all the knowledge they need to begin their new careers each student will spend equal parts of the remaining days practicing on each other and clients (models and subsequently paying clients on the last day of class).
