Leon and Barbara Prete started their first skin care business in 1997 which was called Face and Body Skin Care. As a massage therapist and an aesthetician, the couple had a solid education in personal care which in turn led them to want to offer treatments that were on the cutting edge of their field. So in 2001 Leon and Barbara Prete added laser hair removal to their list of services and named their new business the Laser Centers of Connecticut.
When the Prete's purchased their first laser they found out quickly that there was no formal education for learning the safe and proper use of lasers so they developed their own. By putting together a detailed list of procedures, protocols, and photographs from information they had gathered over the previous four years and then outlining a step by step list of start-to-finish treatment instructions, they were able to put together their first laser training manual.
SafeLase Institute for Cosmetic Laser Training is now recognized as one of the Premier Laser Training programs in the United States.
Since then hundreds of students have come from all over the globe to learn the SafeLase way for performing safe and effective laser treatments. The Safelase Institute laser curriculum (which now includes Laser and Intense Pulsed Light Skin Rejuvenation) has been accepted by the New York Department of Education as advanced training and is currently taught by the Pretes at the Atelier Institute of Aesthetics in Manhattan. The SafeLase Institute Program is also taught as an advanced program onsite at skin care and medical office's throughout the United States. The SafeLase Institute Program certificate is also accepted by the Marine Agency which represents the Lloyds of London with regard to malpractice insurance for laser technicians.
Since laser training of at least 30 hours of hands on and classroom instruction are requirements by insurance companies and a growing number of states. The Safelase Institute's Cosmetic Laser Training Programs continue to be sought out by medical and skin care professionals as well as major laser manufacturers from around the world.
